JWunsigned Relaunch starring Hockey - Jack's review

Last night, the Jack Wills store on the Kings road was transformed into one of the coolest and most intimate of venues. So intimate that I got to hang out and do a couple of Jaeger Bombs with the headline act - Hockey! I have to say that after last night, that is the last time that I try and take on rock stars when it comes to drinking Jaeger!

On top of that, the store was seriously cool with the place kitted out for the gig. But we forgot to mention the best part of it all (depending on who you are) but it was the girls girls girls… It never ceases to amaze me how hot the girls are at our events. So much so that I could have died and gone to heaven. (ha!)

Anyways lets go through what exactly happened over the course of the night.

So we (the team) arrived at the store at around 5, vans outside unloading amps, guitars chucked over the floor and roadies running around like headless chickens.

It was in many ways a typical gig atmosphere, only really intimate. Decided to head upstairs for a quick coffee before the madness. Yes there is a cafe at our Kings Road store, “The Loose Tongue Cafe”. Even decided to get a cupcake with my picture on the top!! The store has numerous floors, so you end up just people watching from above. I’m a pretty big Hockey fan, and it was a huge deal to get them to play at this launch show. When I heard them jamming out “Too Fake” I decided to venture down to the basement where the gig room is. Managed to see Hockey doing their sound check, fresh from their Glastonbury stint they sounded even better than I remember.

The gig was starting to take place, all the pretty girls and boys started to arrive, the DJ was chucking out some sweet tunes. The open bar helped get everyone into the Spirit of the evening. Bang on 7, Fluid Lines hit the stage. These guys were awesome and are about to be huge. They played a short but sweet set. It went down a treat – everyone jamming! Next were Francesqa, again top notch. By now the crowd was warm, actually smoking hot. The crowd was ready for the headline act – Hockey.

So it was now Hockey’s turn. They demolished the crowd with awe over the quality of their act. The place went crazy when they started playing all their top tunes including “Learn To Lose”.

Unfortunately, the 45 minute set ended too quickly! Just before people were allowed to express their disappointment, the Silent Disco kicked off! Silent Discos – what a bizarre concept, only something that the Dutch could have invented. Oh wait, they did. But I tell you what they may have invented but we, Jack Wills, owned it!

As people were dancing away, Hockey chatted to fans – had pictures taken with the competition winners, standard gig – downed Jaeger bombs with the fans!!! I seriously doubt that we will ever be seeing a band like Hockey playing in such an intimate venue again.

Anyways, the beer, cider and…Jaeger bombs continued to get crushed until there was not a single drop left. This was the first JWunsigned gig at the King’s Road store and it was an amazing one. In fact, we are going to do plenty more in the near future. So keep checking out www.jwunsigned.com to find out about the latest gigs.
