Bestival 2009

Bestival for me really IS the best festival. I’ve been to a lot of huge festivals and a lot of random festivals, but Bestival is always the one where the vibe is just spot on. For one, you can just act like a kid all weekend long (well, a drunk-off-cider kind of kid) and two, the music is an awesome mix of everything you could possibly want: Rob Da Bank does such a superb job!

After some adventuring in the tipi fields (including falling asleep under the rugs) and a trip to the Hare and Hound pub down the road (with an incredible view of the site) we stumbled across a spandex clad swing-hip hop duet called The Correspondents who were definitely a favourite of the weekend. Luckily the sky stayed cloudless this year, which meant sandals on and cider out. It was all a bit of a daze that day, until, regrettably Massive Attack were slightly dull… This made way for toffee apples and popcorn in the

Bollywood field and running around every single accessible playground. That is, until the police came and spoiled our fun. Saturday afternoon was spent lazing outside the WI tent with every flavour of tea imaginable and the BEST cake I’ve ever had, whilst watching the space go by (get it? Space…) Ok ok, but seriously, people went to huge lengths to impress with their fancy dress! The moon buggy with movable arms was easily one of the reigning champions followed by 2 robots with programmed LED screens and flashing lights. As for mine, well, lets just say it wasn’t in the top ranks… Later that night, Dan Le Sac vs Scroobius Pip amazed us as always while Klaxons gave us something to rave about. At 5.30am it was time for bed. Waking up on Sunday after falling off the Bestival sign and after an hours sleep was not a good look but it was the last day of the festival and in fact the last day of ANY festival now that the season was drawing to a close, so it was straight out exploring the unusual tents and settling down for some comedy in order to laugh off the previous night’s pain. Rob Deering is a comedian to watch and even Matt Kirschen picked himself up after a rough start. But then it was off to chill out to Fleet Foxes and Elbow before bouncing around to Squarepusher which for me, finished the night off perfectly. The journey back wasn’t too fun after 5 hours sleep in over 2 days, but my word was it worth it! Now, time to get ready for next year’s antics…
