Tangled Hair - EP

Now I don’t know about you, but I’ve been pining after something to replace the Colour-shaped void in my music library and gig diary since they broke up in early 2009. Their blend of indie-math-pop was only just gaining mainstream popularity when they decided to call it a day, after a few limited vinyl/CD releases and an ‘Anthology’ album of some truly great tracks.

Tangled Hair is half of the Colour experience, and they have certainly moved onto new pastures. I managed to catch them at the Boileroom in Guildford back in December, and even with a small crowd and a very early slot, the new stuff went down a storm. Lead singer Alan’s vocals are still spot on, supported by some top harmonies from drummer Trood. Right Here reminds me of something that would go well at the end of a film when the couple finally get it on. Understated guitar work plays with electronic elements dipping in and out, and it ends with some uplifting piano and the lyrics ‘I can trust in you’. Yes Alan, you can, if you keep doing stuff like this.

It may not be anything like Colour, but it is certainly great music. You can also pick up his track Cardboard Hilltop in the Big Scary Monsters track-a-week-for-a-year collection
