Adelaide - 'Journals' EP

Adelaide, formerly known as Antikid for many a year, are set to release their latest EP, Journals, in summer 2009. Hailing from South East London, these guys have been coming up on the radar within the punk/hardcore community, playing with some big name bands over the past few years, and this 5-track EP is sure to boost their profile even further.

This EP shows a change from the old Antikid sound, and it seems as thought the name change seemed to be a statement about their change from their younger years of songwriting and performing. This EP is brilliantly recorded by Matty O'Grady at Outhouse Studios, known for recording You Me At Six's album Take Off Your Colours, and their new upcoming one too, so he's getting pretty good at recording this kinda music.

Each track on this EP manages to be slightly different from the last, showing they have really found their sound. From epic choruses to tense build ups with catchy lyrics, they are sure to have you getting involved in live shows. Dan's vocals are spot on as always, with some incredibly high bits, especially in Nova Scotia. The harmony's and backing vocals tie really well over the heavier guitar sound, and even with tinkly-delay guitar, you know a classic guitar pinch is just around the corner.

There are so many parts within their music to listen out for, it constantly surprises you with the intricate guitar work behind solid drums and basslines. Sahara Logic has got to be one of my favourite tracks. Huge held vocal harmonies, awesome intro and a catchy and uplifting chorus make this track into a real success. Buy this EP and support this band, as I bet they'll be touring in the summer somewhere near you.
